UN model security council event

All island secondary schools have been invited to take part in the UN Model Security Council event to be held Legislative Buildings, Douglas on 4 February 2022 (rescheduled from 3 December 2021).

This year the scenario for debate will be an imagined but realistic scenario featuring a developing crisis which is brought before the UN Security Council. The topic will be the South China Sea where several nations dispute swathes of ocean and tiny atolls.

Two students will represent an allocated Nation State and each country will set out its position on a topic. During the day via rounds of haggling, diplomacy and plenary sessions the students will attempt to construct a Resolution to be voted on – without incurring a veto from any of the five permanent members.  A prize is awarded for the best team and individual.
